How to export Jira issues to PDF

Jira Cloud has no direct Export PDF option, but you can still turn one issue or a whole search into a PDF. Here are the built-in ways, what each one leaves out, and when an export app saves time.

Option 1: one issue with Print

  1. Open the work item.
  2. Open the More actions menu (...) at the top right and choose Print. On some sites it sits under Export.
  3. In the browser print dialog, pick Save as PDF as the printer and save.

This is the quickest way to send a single ticket to someone without Jira access. You get the printable issue view: attachment files are not part of the PDF, and long tables or descriptions can break across pages, so check the result before you send it.

Option 2: a whole search with Print list or Print details

  1. Go to Filters and run a JQL search, for example project = ABC AND fixVersion = "2.4" ORDER BY key.
  2. Open More actions (...), choose Export, then Print list or Print details.
  3. When the print view opens, press Ctrl+P (Cmd+P on a Mac) and choose Save as PDF.

Print list gives a compact list of the results, which suits a status review. Print details shows each work item with its fields, description and comments, which is closer to a real report. Very large searches make a very long print page that can be slow in the browser, so split them with JQL (by sprint, component or created date) if needed.

Option 3: Export Word, then save as PDF

  1. From the same search, open More actions, Export, then Export Word.
  2. Open the file in Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice, adjust headings or add a cover page, then save or download it as PDF.

Atlassian says the Word export includes the description, comments and all other work item data, and recommends exporting around 150 work items at a time. It is the best native option when you want to edit the document before sharing. Community users report that images do not always carry over into the Word file.

Option 4: a table through Excel

If the reader wants a table rather than issue by issue detail, export to Excel or CSV, format the sheet, and print it to PDF from the spreadsheet app. See how to export Jira issues to Excel and, if the CSV opens in one column, how to fix a Jira CSV in Excel.

Option 5: an export app

If you make the same PDF often, need chosen custom fields, or work with Chinese, Japanese or Korean text, an export app removes the print step. Pledona Export for Jira writes a real PDF file from the current JQL search, a saved filter, selected issues or a single issue. Each issue becomes one readable block with its key and summary as a heading, then the fields from your template, comments in full and attachment links. The PDF embeds a Noto Sans CJK font so CJK, Cyrillic and Greek text renders correctly, and an export covers up to 1,000 issues. Attachment files are not embedded in the PDF; add the optional attachments ZIP (up to 4 MB of files per export) when the reader needs small files too. Recurring exports of a saved filter are saved in Jira, and Jira notifies the people you chose when each file is ready. Pledona Export runs entirely on Atlassian Forge with no outside servers, is free for up to 10 users, then $1.50 per user per month through Atlassian, and is pending Atlassian Marketplace review.

Which option to pick

Frequently asked questions

Can Jira Cloud export issues to PDF?

Not directly. Use Print on a single work item, or Export then Print list or Print details on search results, and choose Save as PDF in the browser print dialog. Export Word can also be saved as PDF from your word processor.

How do I export multiple Jira issues to one PDF?

Run a JQL search, open More actions, choose Export and then Print details, and save the print view as PDF. For a repeatable report with chosen fields, an export app can write the PDF file directly.

Does a Jira PDF include comments?

Print details and Export Word include comments. Print list is a compact list of results, so use Print details when the reader needs comment history.

Are attachments included when I save a Jira issue as PDF?

No. The print views do not include attachment files. Download them from the issue with Download all, or use an export app that adds attachment links and a ZIP of small files.

Can Jira send a PDF report on a schedule?

Not natively. Filter subscriptions email a list of issues, not a PDF. Pledona Export can save recurring PDF exports of a saved filter in Jira, and Jira notifies the people you chose when each file is ready.
